Eddie Wakes is an American jazz and soul vocalist celebrated for his velvety baritone voice and timeless interpretations of the Great American Songbook. Hailing from Topeka, Kansas, Wakes was immersed in music from a young age, performing alongside his eight brothers in church and school talent showcases. His father, a pastor and accomplished singer, once received an invitation from Lionel Hampton to perform with his big band, underscoring the family’s deep musical roots.
Wakes’ vocal style draws inspiration from legendary artists such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, and Ella Fitzgerald. His rich, wide-range baritone has garnered acclaim from notable figures in the entertainment industry. Director Damien Chazelle described his voice as “rich, delicate and effortlessly beautiful,” while composer Justin Hurwitz praised him as a “consummate professional with a killer voice.”
In 2025, Wakes released his debut album, “Street Singer,” featuring collaborations with members of The Royal Crown Revue. The album includes the single “Beggar for the Blues,” showcasing his ability to blend classic jazz elements with contemporary sensibilities.
Wakes has performed at prestigious venues such as Birdland Theater in New York City and the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in California. His live performances are noted for their emotional depth and technical precision, captivating audiences across the country.
